Tasketeer FAQ

What exactly is a Tasketeer?

A Tasketeer is a trusted, vetted service provider who helps seniors with everyday home tasks — things like minor repairs, light yard cleanup, furniture assembly, tech support, and more. You set your own hours, choose your jobs, and we handle everything else.

Do I need to be a licensed tradesperson to apply?

No license is required for most of our service categories. We’re looking for reliable, friendly, and handy people with good communication skills. If you’re applying for specialized categories like electrical or plumbing work, a relevant certification may be required.

How do I apply?

Click the “Apply Now” button on the Become a Tasketeer page, select “Register,” and complete your profile. Once submitted, our team reviews every application carefully and gets back to you as soon as possible. Questions? Email us at vendors@thetasketeers.ca.

How long does the approval process take?

We review every application personally — this isn’t an automated system. Most applicants hear back within a few business days. We take the vetting process seriously because our clients trust us to send only the best people into their homes.

Pay & Earnings

How much can I earn as a Tasketeer?

You set your own hourly rate. Most Tasketeers earn between $20–$40 per hour, depending on their skills and service category. Part-time Tasketeers typically earn $500–$1,500/month, while full-time Tasketeers can earn $2,000–$5,000/month. Your income depends on your availability, how many bookings you accept, and your client reviews.

How and when do I get paid?

Payments are processed securely through Stripe Connect with direct deposit to your bank account. Payouts are typically processed within 1-3 business days after a completed job. We walk you through the setup process step by step — it’s easier than it sounds.

How do I set up my Stripe Connect account?

Stripe Connect is the secure payment system we use to send payments directly to you through a Stripe account. You will need to have a Stripe Express Account Setup in order for us to do so. If you run into any issues, email us at vendors@thetasketeers.ca, and we’ll help you through it personally.

Are there any fees taken from my earnings?

The Tasketeers charges a small platform fee of 30% per completed booking to cover client acquisition, insurance administration, and platform operations. Your listed rate is what clients see — the fee structure is explained clearly during registration.

Requirements & Documentation

What do I need to provide when I apply?

To become a Tasketeer you will need:

  • A valid Criminal Record Check — this is required for all Tasketeers. You can obtain one quickly and affordably online or at your local police station.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Check is optional but highly recommended. Tasketeers who provide one will have a verified badge displayed on their profile — helping them stand out and build trust with clients and their families. Some police departments require an organizational letter to process this check. You can download ours here.
  • A photo of your government-issued ID
  • Proof of insurance (if you indicate you carry insurance)
  • A smartphone and reliable transportation
  • A Stripe account for receiving payments

Do I need insurance?

Insurance is required for certain service categories (such as handyman and home safety work). If you indicate that you carry insurance during registration, you must provide proof. If you’re unsure what coverage you need, contact us at vendors@thetasketeers.ca, and we can point you in the right direction.

Do I need to be incorporated or have a business number?

No. You do not need to be incorporated or have a business number to become a Tasketeer. You work as an independent service provider. We recommend speaking with an accountant about your personal tax obligations as a self-employed individual.

What tools do I need?

Basic hand tools are expected for most handyman and home repair categories. You don’t need a full workshop — a good tool bag with the essentials is fine. Specialty tools required for specific jobs are noted in the service listings.

How It Works Day to Day

How do I get clients?

We handle all client acquisition and marketing — that’s one of the biggest benefits of being a Tasketeer. Once your profile is live and approved, clients in your area can find and book you directly through the platform. You simply approve bookings that fit your schedule.

Can I choose which jobs I accept?

Absolutely. You control your availability and approve every booking before it’s confirmed. You’re never forced to take a job that doesn’t work for you.

What happens if a client cancels or there’s a problem with a booking?

Our platform has a clear Refund & Trust Policy that protects both Tasketeers and clients. If an issue arises, contact us at vendors@thetasketeers.ca and we’ll work to resolve it fairly and quickly.

What kinds of jobs will I be doing?

Jobs range across our service categories including:

  • Handyman tasks — minor repairs, light bulb changes, grab bar installation
  • Tech support — helping seniors with phones, tablets, and computers
  • Furniture assembly
  • Cleaning, Organizing, Decluttering
  • Light yard cleanup
  • Compassion care and companion visits
  • Home safety inspections
  • Laundry – Wash & Fold and Put Away
  • Footcare (certified providers only)
  • SonderCare product maintenance

Our Mission & Who We Serve

Who are your clients?

Our clients are primarily seniors who want to live safely and independently in their own homes, and the family members who care for them. These are real people who genuinely need your help. As a Tasketeer, you’re not just doing jobs — you’re helping people maintain their independence and quality of life.

Why do you focus on seniors?

Because they deserve reliable, trustworthy help from people who actually care. Many seniors are uncomfortable letting strangers into their homes — our vetting process, insurance requirements, and background checks exist to make them feel safe. When you become a Tasketeer, you earn that trust.

Is this a fit for me if I just want occasional extra income?

Yes. Many of our Tasketeers work part-time alongside other jobs or responsibilities. As long as you’re reliable, professional, and genuinely care about helping people, there’s a place for you in our network regardless of how many hours you want to work. You set the days and hours you’re open to working and clients will only see that availability when booking.
